Lamps

Larry Geiger’s cover design for “Elephant” is classic, retro and even a bit peculiar. His design showing an elephant lamp being toppled, with the shade and the pull string slightly off kilter, conveys the domestic turmoil reflected in the collected stories. The cover is pictured to the right as a link to the book on Amazon.

After the cover of the book was recently released, I started to receive pictures of “domesticated” elephants! We all know elephant lamps are awesome. Do you have an elephant lamp or other “domesticated” elephant? Send me a picture and I’ll place it on this page!

Here’s Michael Dolan’s “domesticated elephant.” (pictured above) Michael wrote, “It was “liberated” when I was a young church sacristan from a church basement – part of a huge wooden nativity set no longer
in use. I thought it a shame to be collecting dust, so it became my joke pollyanna gift that year. Stuck with my brother for years until he moved and gave the elephant back.”

  1. Hi, Jim – Remember me from QVC – I worked in the library for 4 years 2003-7. Glad to see you are thriving as a writer. Related to domesticated elephants, I’d like to send you a photo of a print of a domesticated elephant on a tightrope. The artist is Edith Dufaux, a Parisian printmaker, painter and sculptor. The print touched me – the vulnerability of such a large animal moving with slow dignity as it performs in the circus for human entertainment. I could not find a way to attach the image to my post.
    Best regards,
    Jean

    • Jean – nice to hear from you. I’d love to see the print. It sounds interesting. I hope things are well with you! If you are on fb or twitter, let me know and we can reconnect there. Thanks!
